KidLit Community Giving Back to Benefit Red Cross

One of the things I love best about writing kidlit is being part of an amazing, supportive, and just-so-darn SWEET community of writers.  I have seen countless examples of writers offering fellow writers shoulders to stand on, cry on or cuddle into and I know for a fact a more caring group of people would be hard to find.

On Wednesday morning I received an email from one of my own wonderful critique partners, who rode out Hurricane Sandy on the south shore of Long Island. She described an ocean, complete with waves, pouring down her street and seeping into her home while her children slept  a floor above.  She detailed cars floating down the street followed by National Guard tanks, trees down, and road that have buckled like you've likely only seen in movies.  It really brought home the images on the TV screen.

Soo...in an effort to do what I can from far away, I've recruited some fantabulous publishing professionals willing to donate their time to offer critiques and more, all to help The Red Cross support the long cleanup effort awaiting victims of this storm.

Here's how it will work:
Choose any (or all) auctions below to bid on, using the comment box.   If you would like to bid, check the highest bid in the comment box and bid a higher dollar amount along with your contact information (either email, Twitter or Facebook info will work).  The auction will close on Wednesday November 7th at 4:59:59 pm EST and bids coming in after this date and time will be voided. Winners will be notified when the auction ends and should be prepared at that time to donate the bid amount directly to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.  Forward your receipt to me and I will put you in touch with the person who donated the service. It will be up to you and the donating party to determine a reasonable timeline in which to redeem your prize if it is a service such as a critique.

Additionally, I will offer a bonus query critique (by me or another author) to anyone who emails me at auctionforsandy@yahoo.com with a receipt for a donation to the Red Cross exceeding $100 (no bidding or win required).

Good luck to bidders and thank you for your support!

  2. Hi Jennifer, I'm coming here via Rachael Harrie at Rach Writes. You've got some fine auction items here. It's past my bedtime, but I'll come back to take another look, to see if I'd like to enter a bid.
    What a great idea!

  3. Hi Jen, I was involved in an online auction a couple of months ago. There was a dispute at the close of the auction. Just to be clear, if your auction closes at 5pm ET, does that mean the last valid bid must be posted by 4:59:59pm, or 5:00:59pm? Some bidders believe that a 5pm bid is valid. Can you clarify?
